About
the Challenge
Congratulations
on your decision to join the Lt. Governor's Challenge! Regular physical
activity can boost your mood, help you to lose weight and reduce
your risk for chronic illness.
Because
too few Delawareans get the recommended amount of physical activity,
the office of
Lt. Governor John C. Carney
has teamed up with the
American Cancer Society, Christiana Care Health Systems, Division
of Public Health, University of Delaware, YMCA and the DE State
Chamber of Commerce to develop and promote this free program. Their
goal is to get Delawareans started toward a more active lifestyle.
Over
a 12-week period, you choose what activities to perform. There's
no need to invest in expensive equipment or join a gym. Points are
earned for every 30 minutes of movement, based on what activities
you choose. The more intense the activity, the higher the point
value. Participants keep track of their activities, and based on
how many points are earned over the 3 months, they may be eligible
for a gold, silver or bronze medal.

Two
versions of the program are available. This online version allows
you to input all of your activities, and have your point totals
tallied automatically. After 12 weeks, you can enter your total
points, and if you are eligible for a medal, one will be sent to
you through the mail.
For
those who do not have computer access, a logbook is available by
calling the Lt. Governor's Office at 302-577-8787, or the University
of Delaware at 302-831-6176.
